Budapest is the capital and the most populous city of Hungary and located along the Danube River. Around 41-52 AD Romans founded a military settlement Acuincum. Hungarians arrived in the territory in late 9th century. The area was invaded by Mongols in 1241-42. Ottoman Empire ruled it from 1526 to 1686. Buda and Pest were united in 1873 under the name Budapest.
