Dominican Republic occupies 5/8 of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. Santo Domingo is the capital of Dominican Republic. It was founded in 1496 by Bartholomew Columbus, the younger brother of Christopher Columbus.
All photos of the lanterns in Santo Domingo and at the resort were taken in December 2006.
Casa de Campo and Melia Resort (Bavaro) photos were taken by our brother-in-law Vitaly Zayler.
Dates are in the photo captions.
When it was possible, we checked the locations with Google Street View and put information in the photo caption about present conditions or existence of the lantern. A lantern is marked with (?) if we could not confirm its existence or conditions. If there is no note, it means that the lantern exists and has not changed.
