Brockville

Brockville, known as the "City of the 1000 Islands", is located on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, about 340km east of Toronto and 115km south of Ottawa. The Area was first settled by British Loyalists in 1784 and named Elizabethtown. During the war of 1812 the village was renamed Brockville after Isaak Brock, British general who commanded British Army in Upper Canada. Brockville was incorporated as a town in 1832 and a city in 1962.

We visited Brockville in August 2008 on our way home from vacationing near Stanstead, Quebec.
